I want to share the story of Kym Dehoney, a photographer whose journey is nothing short of inspiring. How Kym Built a Dream Photography Career After Her Desk Job is a story of creativity, courage, and transformation—one that reminds us it’s never too late to follow your passion.
Kym spent nearly half her life in stage management, deeply immersed in the world of theater. But despite her love for the arts, she found herself uninspired and stuck in a routine that didn’t align with her creative spirit. Everything changed the moment she picked up a camera. It reignited something within her—a spark she couldn’t ignore.
That spark led Kym to leave behind the safety of her theater career and take a leap into photography, embracing a completely new adventure. Today, she’s thriving, building a business that’s not only creative but also deeply fulfilling.
Kym’s story is proof that with the right mindset and a willingness to embrace change, you can create a career that truly aligns with who you are.
How Did Kym Do It?
Taking the Leap: Despite knowing little about photography, Kym decided to dedicate herself to building her dream photography career. She traded her entry-level camera for a new sense of purpose, using her natural passion for storytelling to press “pause” on life’s most precious moments.“I felt this pull that if I didn’t try this, I would always regret it.”
Adapting Through Change: Kym’s journey wasn’t without challenges. In 2019, her husband’s job relocated them from California to Japan. Struggling to adapt to the change, Kym sought guidance from other business owners but often found herself lost in a world of competition rather than collaboration.
Discovering Community and Guidance: Everything changed in 2020 when Kym attended the Wedding Photography Summit. The sense of community she discovered was a revelation. Inspired, she worked harder, gained confidence, and began booking more clients. In 2021, Kym joined the Six-Figure Business Map and found the mentorship and creative approach to business she had been seeking: “Learning to look at business as a creative process, just as much as the artistic side, put so many things in perspective.”
Balancing Art and Business: By treating her business as an extension of her creative expression, Kym unlocked a new level of fulfillment. The support and camaraderie of like-minded entrepreneurs allowed her to thrive, reigniting her passion for her work.
Kym’s Biggest Wins
A Renewed Sense of Purpose: Kym rediscovered her inspiration and transformed her business into a fulfilling, passion-driven endeavor.
Confidence in Her Craft: With the support of the Six-Figure Business Map, Kym became more confident in her skills and began booking more clients.
Finding Community: After years of feeling lost in competition, Kym found a supportive network of passionate entrepreneurs who uplift and inspire each other.
Viewing Business as Creativity: By treating business as a creative process, Kym shifted her perspective and found harmony between her artistic and entrepreneurial sides.
